BRING ALL EQUIPMENT WITH YOU THE FIRST DAY OF THE COURSE.
You may use any RELIABLE semi-automatic or pump shotgun for this course. Short barrels 18-20 inches with improved cylinder or modified choke bores are recommended, but your bird-hunting gun will work just fine as long as it will fire SLUGS safely.
Caliber/gauge Standards
12 gauge or 20 gauge recommended (no 410s) (Bring out the old 16 if you want, but ammo costs are painful).
Shotguns will be slung and handguns holstered at all times except on the firing line.
We require a sling for your shotgun and a holster for your pistol to ensure safety while walking to and from the firing lines.
Both tactical and standard slings will work just fine.
You may reload your shotgun from an ammo sidesaddle, your belt mounted shell holder or from a bandoleer. Any methods are acceptable as long as they are SAFE! (If you have questions call before the course.)
Pistol or Revolver (secondary weapon)
You must also bring a revolver or semi-auto pistol to function as your secondary weapon. This is a practical training program and you will be required to integrate and deploy your secondary weapon in specific situations during the training. The secondary weapon will be secured in a strong side or tactical thigh holster only.
Shotgun
BUCKSHOT 00 – 20 (#1or #3 BUCK IS FINE FOR THE 20 GUAGE.)
BIRDSHOT – 25 (RECOMMEND #6 GAME LOADS or smaller shot) Make sure they are reliable in your shotgun. Some semi-auto shotguns require a FULL power loading to function with 100% reliability.
Pistol
100 rounds of factory loaded ammunition (FMJ is fine)
At least one spare magazine or speed loader.
YOU MAY NOT USE hand-loaded ammunition for any part of this course! WHY?---Because it creates UNNECESSARY LIABILITY and injury exposure for both you and your INSTRUCTORS!
Come have a GREAT time with the
Border Tactical Training Team
Every participant in the course will be required to WEAR EYE and HEARING protection during ALL FIRING range activities. Eyewear should have ANSI impact approved polycarbonate lenses. We recommend full side panel eye protection coverage.
A hat with a bill on it will keep hot brass from landing between your shooting glasses and your face or in your eye. Wear one at all times while on the firing line.
Knee Pads REQUIRED
The firing range surface is very rough and we still find glass mixed with the rocks and other debris on the range. You WILL fire from the kneeling and prone positions in some of the training drills.
DO NOT BRING LIVE AMMUNITION OR LOADED SHOTGUNS INTO THE TRAINING AREA AT THE RANGE until we ask for them!
